Book Review: Doggy Desserts - Homemade Treats for Happy, Healthy Dogs

We've been so busy lately, our dog has had to make do with no cookies :-( Popping him an occasional slice of apple or banana, I cannot help but think - what's wrong with giving him just fruit? It is nature's perfect dessert and snack for our dog.

This book was published in 2007 by BowTie Press but the photos look somewhat dated - like it was taken out from some old photostock. Well... photos are not the main 'ingredients' for a good book.

Looking at the recipes (more than 100 of them), some of them include the use of raisins and garlic which are not completely safe for consumption by dogs!!! Good thing is the book I'm holding on to has an additional sticker, probably added after printing.

It carries this warning: "Grapes, Raisins, and Garlic Warning - Since the development of this book, there has been evidence that grapes, raisins and garlic can be toxic to some dogs. To be safe, we recommend that you omit these ingredients from the recipes in this book. Omitting them will not alter the palatability of consistency of the treat."

Hopefully, everyone who picks up the book would see the small sticker on one of the pages...

What I like about this book is that the recipes are quite varied, including biscotti recipes which we're itching to try out.

Looking at the photos again, I think it exudes an old-world kind of charm, kind of vintage like most recipes that are passed down from generations.
